Program: From the Aztec World to the Mayan World with Oaxaca

Travel around Mexico in 17 days

This will undoubtedly be a fascinating tour, among aromas, flavors, beautiful landscapes, exquisite cuisine, popular crafts, a lot of history, colonial architecture and cities with a provincial atmosphere; All of which combines beautifully with the majestic thousand-year-old structures, buildings and pyramids of the archaeological sites of Mexico.

In 17 days we will visit Mexico City, the Aztec Templo Mayor, Xochimilco, the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Teotihuacan, Cholula, the City of Puebla, then we will visit Oaxaca, Monte Alban and the communities of Arrazola, Cuilapan de Guerrero, and San Bartolo Coyotepec, we say goodbye to Oaxaca and go to Orizaba and Córdoba, from there to Villahermosa, Palenque, Campeche, passing through Kobah and Uxmal to reach Mérida, we tour haciendas and cenotes in Yucatán to finally visit Chichen Itzá and finish in Cancún. Breakfast. This day we will visit Mexico City, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. This tour includes visiting the Zócalo of Mexico City, the National Palace, the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Aztec Temple, the Paseo de la Reforma, Chapultepec Park, and the Zona Rosa.

Later we will visit Xochimilco, also declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, where we will take a ride on an Aztec boat or trajinera.

We will visit the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and then continue towards the Pre-Hispanic City of Teotihuacan, (the City of the Gods), which was one of the largest urban centers in the ancient world and came to concentrate a population of more than 100,000 inhabitants at its peak, this is one of the oldest archaeological sites in Mesoamerica.

In the afternoon we leave for the beautiful Magical Town of Cholula. Accommodation in hotel.

Magical Town of Cholula - Puebla

After breakfast we will go to the Archaeological Zone of Cholula, where we will be able to see the largest pyramid in the world in terms of base, the product of 7 superimposed pyramids. We will also be able to climb the sanctuary of Our Lady of Remedies and see inside, a neoclassical altar and the image of the Virgin. We will continue our visit to the temple of Santa María Tonantzintla that frames the popular baroque art par excellence. We will also visit the temple of San Francisco Acatepec considered a masterpiece of Mexican baroque. Finally, we will have the opportunity to visit the Franciscan convent and the Plaza de la Concordia. During the transfers we will visit a Talavera factory (except on Sundays) where they will give us an explanation of these beautiful pieces from Puebla.

Breakfast. Hotel check out. We will travel to the city of Puebla, declared a World Heritage City by UNESCO.

The city of Puebla is known for its rich cultural, historical and gastronomic heritage. Puebla was the scene of important events such as the Battle of May 5, and among its most illustrious sons are important historical figures such as the Serdán brothers. Puebla has impressive colonial buildings and monuments, and is famous for its crafts and gastronomy, since it is here that Talavera Puebla has been produced for more than 4 centuries, as well as exquisite dishes that you will not find anywhere else, such as chiles en nogada, chalupas, cemitas and mole poblano.

The tour begins by visiting the municipal palace, right in front of the Plaza Mayor, admiring its baroque architecture in the historic center. We will visit the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, built in 1649, just a few years before the metropolitan cathedral. Then you will visit the chapel of the Virgin of the Rosary, considered the eighth wonder of the art world. You will walk through its streets full of flavors and colors and history such as the street of sweets, famous for the variety of crafts and rich in these delicacies, we will continue with the Parián crafts market, formerly the plaza of San Roque, the perfect place to buy crafts of various styles and materials.

In the afternoon we said goodbye to Puebla and headed to the city of Oaxaca where we stayed in a hotel.

Monte Alban - Oaxaca

After breakfast, we head to the ancient Zapotec capital known as Monte Alban, which was built on a group of hills.

Located 9 km from the city of Oaxaca, in Monte Alban the Great Plaza awaits you, with its ceremonial buildings, among which the following stand out: the Ball Game, Building S or the Monte Alban Palace; the South Platform; the Observatory or Building J, unique in its kind in Mesoamerica; the imposing Platform of the Dancers, which was originally adorned with more than three hundred stelae. Without a doubt, we will take away a very cultural experience from Monte Alban, in Oaxaca.

Leaving Monte Alban we will visit Arrazola, a town where the colorful figurines called alebrijes are made. Each piece is original and imaginative, unique and unrepeatable.

We leave Arrazola and head towards Cuilapan de Guerrero, where the largest convent complex in the entire New World is located, which was never finished.

Then we arrive at San Bartolo Coyotepec where we will have the opportunity to admire the heirs of the Mesoamerican tradition in the production of ceramics completely by hand, without the need for a wheel, according to the technique rediscovered by the illustrious Doña Rosa, which allows the production of objects in polished black terracotta.

Finally we will return to the city of Oaxaca.

Oaxaca City

We begin our tour of the city of Oaxaca by the Temple of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, a monumental architectural complex that is a beautiful example of the Baroque in Mexico of the Dominican Order. We enter the former convent to visit the Museum of Cultures of Oaxaca, where Mixtec and Zapotec archaeology and the treasure from Tomb No. 7 of Monte Albán are exhibited.

We continue to explore the city of Oaxaca and its streets, museums and shops until we reach the historic center, where we can enjoy a mix of the sounds of the band and the Marimba and we will visit the portals of the center, the Garden of the Constitution. And to finish this magical tour, you will visit the folkloric markets: The Benito Juárez Market, which is the most traditional, where you can buy and compare crafts such as black clay or the most representative alebrijes. Here you will find everything from the typical costumes of the eight regions of the state of Oaxaca to famous products such as: Mole Oaxaqueño, Tlayudas, Mezcal, Chocolate, Quesillo and Chapulines, and the 20 de Noviembre market that will conquer you with the aromas and flavors of the rich gastronomy of Oaxaca.

After eating, we say goodbye to Oaxaca and head to the city of Orizaba where we stay at a hotel.

Orizaba y Córdoba - Coatzacoalcos

The Magical Town of Orizaba, also known as the City of Happy Waters, won in the “surprising architecture” category of the contest held by the website, México Desconocido.

Breakfast. Hotel check out. Our tour begins at the old Art Nouveau municipal palace, a beautiful iron structure made in Belgium at the end of the 19th century, transported by boat and then assembled in Orizaba.

We head to the Cathedral of San Miguel Arcángel. We continue with a panoramic tour to board the Cable Car where we will take a ride over the majestic landscape of this colonial city and reach Cerro del Borrego to visit its on-site museum.

Next is the Poliforum Cultural Mier y Pesado, an architectural work of Medieval style surrounded by beautiful gardens and which in its different rooms exhibits works of art by great masters.

We leave for Cordoba, also known as "the City of the 30 Knights" who were the founders of this city full of stories, the Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.

We will visit the La Favorita mansion, currently a cultural center, where Iturbide, Maximilian, Benito Juarez and Francisco I. Madero were guests. We will also see the famous Portal de Ceballos, declared a National Monument for its architecture and for serving as the site of the signing of the treaties that ended the Mexican War of Independence.

We recommend enjoying the delicious local cuisine for our meal and when we finish, we move to the city of Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz where we will stay in a hotel for the night.

Coatzacoalcos - Villahermosa

Breakfast. Hotel check out. We continue our journey to Villahermosa, the capital of the state of Tabasco, a trip that will take us 1 hour and a half. We begin our walk through Villahermosa with the beautiful Parque Museo La Venta (eco-archaeological museum), a symbol of the Olmec culture. Later we go to the interpretation and coexistence center with nature "Yumká", a majestic ecological reserve in Tabasco that allows you to learn about the Tabasco ecosystem (jungle, savannah and lagoon) and see animals in full freedom. To finish, it is recommended to eat at a restaurant serving Tabasco food, transfer back to the city of Villahermosa. Accommodation in hotel.

Villahermosa - Palenque - Campeche

Breakfast. Hotel check out. We head to the state of Chiapas to visit Palenque, one of the most emblematic cities of the Mayan world.

The Palenque Archaeological Zone, located approximately 2 hours from Villahermosa, is surrounded by jungle, and was declared a "cultural heritage of humanity" by UNESCO. Palenque is one of the best preserved Mayan cities with the most recorded history. Walking through its courtyards and palaces is a unique experience.

After this fascinating tour, it is recommended to eat at a beautiful local restaurant, where the cuisine is exquisite.

After lunch, we say goodbye to Palenque and head to the city of San Francisco de Campeche, in the state of Campeche.

After breakfast, we will have a guided tour of the main attractions of the city of Campeche. We will visit the walled city of Campeche, and we will even be able to see some of the pirates who once besieged it and who still remain in the memory of the city. We will see the colonial houses of Campeche, its squares, fortresses, bastions, museums and legends. Its beauty and exquisite cuisine make Campeche an unforgettable city.

Kabah - Uxmal - Merida City

Breakfast. Hotel check out. We will set off to see two of the most beautiful representations of engineering and architecture in the Mayan world.

We will visit Kabah with its Palace of the Masks, and then we will visit Uxmal with its Quadrangle of the Nuns, its magnificent Pyramid of the Magician, its Ball Game and its extraordinary Governor's Palace.

For lunch we recommend enjoying Yucatecan cuisine in a local restaurant and then we will continue our journey to the city of Merida. Where the hospitality that characterizes this city awaits us. Hotel accommodation.

Merida City

The city of Mérida, capital of the state of Yucatán, has a rich Mayan and colonial heritage.

After breakfast, we will walk along Paseo Montejo, the city's emblematic avenue that was built in the 19th century, during the heyday of "green gold" (henequén) to imitate the Champs Elysees in Paris. You will be able to appreciate that this avenue still guards monuments and mansions from that time of great splendor.

We will also visit the old neighborhoods of Mérida and the main points of historical interest in this charming city.

We return to the hotel. Free afternoon in the city.

Route of Haciendas and Cenotes

After breakfast, we leave to enjoy a wonderful tour full of history through the haciendas of Yucatan, one of them is the Hacienda Tadzibichen, we will have a guided tour to learn about what was the hacienda of Pedro Infante and then we will continue to the Hacienda Uayalceh, a faithful witness to the history of its time of splendor.

We continue deep into the low jungle of the Yucatan peninsula to discover the fantastic cenotes of Yaal-Utzil and Peba, jewels of nature with crystal-clear waters where we can enjoy a refreshing swim.

Later we go to the Ochil Bello hacienda, which has workshops and pools, where we will have time to eat, visit and get to know the hacienda. Return to Merida.

Merida - Chichen Itza - Cancun

Breakfast. Hotel check out. We say goodbye to the beautiful city of Merida to visit one of the seven wonders of the modern world: The archaeological zone of Chichén Itzá (at the mouth of the well of the Itzaes).

In Chichén Itzá the main building is the Pyramid of Chichén Itzá or El Castillo, but there are other equally important buildings such as El Caracol or Observatory, the Temple of the Warriors and the Mayan Ball Game.

Chichén Itzá is divided into Ancient Chichén, where you can find 6 Mayan Ruins, and Chichén Itzá with about 20 Mayan Ruins, making a total of 26 Mayan Ruins to see in the archaeological zone.

At the end of the visit we continue our journey to Cancun. Hotel accommodation on an "all-inclusive" basis.

Transportation: Hike: 2 hours through Chichen Itza and tourist car with driver-guide (4 hours).
